It's been over a year since we first published a post about using the Euphonix MC Transport with Davinci Resolve so it's long overdue that we told you how it's been setup.

We've had the Euphonix MC Transport for a while now and we recently bought an Avid Artist Transport (same thing) which has prompted us to update the blog about it - sorry for the delay.

All settings are configured via EUControl Settings.

Wheel Sensitivity

The Wheel Sensitivity needs to be slowed down quite a bit in order to get a somewhat usable Jog and Shuttle - though neither are great in Resolve.

Jog

In order to get the Jog to function we need to switch to the Soft Keys tab and change Section to the Wheel option for the Artist Transport - click on the Jog wheel within the image UI to highlight it.

Then change the Soft key label to Jog and click the Command button.

Under Custom Jog Wheel Commands click the + button and name it Jog if this is not already present.

With Turn Jog Right selected add a Key Command and set it as \r.

Then; switch to Turn Jog Left and add a Key Command and set it as \l.

Shuttle

Close the Jog Wheel Command Editor and click the Shuttle wheel within the image UI to highlight it.

Change the Soft key label to Shuttle and click the Command button to open the Shuttle Wheel Command Editor.

Under Custom Shuttle Wheel Commands click the + button and name it Shuttle if this is not already present.

With Shuttle Zone 0 selected add a Key Command and set it as K. This will make Resolve stop when the Shuttle is released/returned to centre.

As noted before; the Shuttle isn't the best in Resolve but we've found using the following forward and reverse settings to be OK when used with care.

Controlling the forward settings

Switch to Shuttle Zone 1, add a Key Command and set it as \r.

Switch to Shuttle Zone 2, add a Key Command and set it as L.

Switch to Shuttle Zone 3, add a Key Command and set it as L.

Switch to Shuttle Zone 4, add a Key Command and set it as SHIFT + L.

Switch to Shuttle Zone 5, add a Key Command and set it as SHIFT + L.

Switch to Shuttle Zone 6, add a Key Command and set it as SHIFT + L.

Switch to Shuttle Zone 7, add a Key Command and set it as SHIFT + L.

Controlling the reverse settings

Switch to Shuttle Zone -1, add a Key Command and set it as \l.

Switch to Shuttle Zone -2, add a Key Command and set it as J.

Switch to Shuttle Zone -3, add a Key Command and set it as J.

Switch to Shuttle Zone -4, add a Key Command and set it as SHIFT + J.

Switch to Shuttle Zone -5, add a Key Command and set it as SHIFT + J.

Switch to Shuttle Zone -6, add a Key Command and set it as SHIFT + J.

Switch to Shuttle Zone -7, add a Key Command and set it as SHIFT + J.

Wheel Buttons

As you can see from the image below; we have our buttons configured to jump between LAST and NEXT clips, RR/FF, RWD/FWD and PLAY/STOP at top/centre.

Click LAST (as shown); change the Soft Key Label to LAST, click Command, add a Key Command and set it as \u.

Click RR (as shown); change the Soft Key Label to RR, click Command, add a Key Command and set it as J.

Click RWD (as shown); change the Soft Key Label to RWD, click Command, add a Key Command and set it as \l.

Click PLAY (as shown); change the Soft Key Label to PLAY, click Command, add a Key Command and set it as \s.

Click FWD (as shown); change the Soft Key Label to FWD, click Command, add a Key Command and set it as \r.

Click FF (as shown); change the Soft Key Label to FF, click Command, add a Key Command and set it as L.

Click NEXT (as shown); change the Soft Key Label to NEXT, click Command, add a Key Command and set it as \d.

Softkeys

We've setup our Softkeys to allow us to toggle Shuttle and Jog functionality and also to toggle Looping.

Change the Section to the Softkeys option for the Artist Transport.

Shuttle

The shuttle toggle is easy to implement; select the SHUTTLE soft key (as shown), change the Soft Key Label to SHUTTLE, click Command.

Under Command add Wheel, then within the Details panel on the right; set Wheel to Shuttle and the Function to Custom: Shuttle - this is linking the Softkey to the Shuttle commands you just configured.

Jog

The Jog toggle is set in the same way; select the JOG soft key (as shown), change the Soft Key Label to JOG, click Command.

Under Command add Wheel, then within the Details panel on the right; set Wheel to Jog and the Function to Custom: Jog - this is linking the Softkey to the Jog commands you just configured.

Loop

Loop is very basic; select the LOOP soft key (as shown), change the Soft Key Label to LOOP, click Command.

Add a Key Command and set it as CMD + /.

Using with Davinci Resolve

Now that you have the basics configured; within Resolve you need to remember to toggle the Shuttle and Jog wheels in order to use them. The corresponding Softkeys illuminate accordingly.

You should also be able to make use of the other keys that we've configured as well as toggle LOOP within playback - this Softkey will not illuminate as it controls loop based on selection.

Further controls

You can reconfigure any of the controls to better fit your needs and also use the numpad keys for other settings within Resolve - go crazy and see what you come up with!
