We decided to sell our Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC) as we planned to move on to producing 4K content but then we struggled to decide which camera to replace it with.
We love the Blackmagic Design cameras and studio hardware, as well as DaVinci Resolve of course so it was difficut to think of moving to another manufacturer.
For this camera, we need it to easily mount to our DJI Ronin and our Steadicam Pilot HD so we need something pretty small.
We looked at the Panasonic GH5, RED Scarlet and the Kinfinity Kinemini 4K but all of these had some issues for us with regards to workflow, price, specifications and so forth.
We've been looking at the Blackmagic Design Micro Studio Camera 4K (BMMSC) for some time now and whilst it's not exactly ideal outside a studio environment, when coupled with the Blackmagic Design Video Assist 4K it's an impressive piece of equipment.
In the end, we went back to the first idea we had and bought the BMMSC and the Blackmagic Design Video Assist 4K.
The BMMSC is compatible with the Metabones Speedbooster for the BMPCC that we still have which means that we're good to go with our arsenal of Nikon glass straight away.
The miniscule size of the BMMSC is very impressive so mounting it to the DJI Ronin M is a breeze and even fully rigged it'll fly really well on the Steadicam Pilot HD and the Video Assist 4K can also replace the HD monitor on the Steadicam and make use of the existing cabling too!
We've covered the BMMSC in the usual Smallrig goodies to give us more mounting options as well as providing some protection.
